0 The Fool
0 The Fool is spiritus, the breath or spirit of life, and the protagonist of this story. He is the itinerant wanderer starting his journey to learn the great mysteries of life. As Uranus, the god of the sky and the planet this card represents, the sky’s the limit to The Fool. This child-like nomad wanders through the Major Arcana cards while holding true potential within his small bundle that holds untapped knowledge of all the suits of the Minor Arcana cards Cups, Pentacles, Swords, and Wands. The grim realities of the world have no affect on him, and he does as he pleases. His pilgrimage introduces him to the ravages of his foolishness while acquiring age-old wisdom. Each of his Major Arcana card excursions brings him closer to the fulfillment of life. As in Buddhism, time is not counted but experienced, and The Fool seeks aimless adventures just for the experiences. Nevertheless, his travels take him into the far recesses of his spiritual being and back to terra firma. Actually, it’s only by convention that his card is numbered zero because in reality, he’s nothing, null, zilch and can fit anywhere in the Major Arcana cards. The true innocence of his childhood shines from the truths he sees that are not distorted by dogmatic restraints imposed by societies. His thoughts are as expansive as Uranus itself. He’s the child discovering new things with complete delight and heralds refreshing new beginnings with freedom, optimism, and perilous naivety. You must also take your own precarious first steps to new learning experiences while casting obstacles in your way aside with the spirit of life for your dreams to come true. The Fool is smart enough to know that he must embark on a journey of self-discovery for learning, changing, and earning. The Latin idiom “ad astra per aspera” translates into a rough road leads to the stars and is the motto this card. At the end of his journey, he will have “the power.” The world is at The Fool’s command, and he lives for the moment, so who’s the fool now?
