Zodiac Killer's Name & More…

ImageZodiacKiller

Zodiac Killer’s long history of California killings, widely suspected killings, and attacks extended from the late 1960s into the mid-1970s. The details of his killing escapades are quite extensive and can be found all over the Internet and in a number of books, so I don’t plan on reiterating already known facts of his activities. The Zodiac Killer was well known for sending handwritten letters in English outlining details of his past crimes or potential next crime and cryptic-symbol messages in which many to-date have not been deciphered. My only interest is decoding the 1970 letter sent stating, "My name is–," and the 1969 message of 18 letters of EBEORIETEMETHHPITI found at the end of a deciphered symbolic code. I would like you to read over the following Zodiac Killer’s message of My name is–, and note what words you think are misspelled because they are part but not all of the clues.

ZodiacKillerNote

The first of what is considered a misspelled word is "cerous." The way he spells it eludes you to the word “serious,” but in context, “curious” makes more sense. Later in the message, he spells the word kid with a c for "cid." While decoding this, I wrote S=C=K as a clue from the supposedly misspelled words cerous and cid. As we will find out, the S, C and K are very much connected. I have a few aside comments. The word cerous is actually a chemical state of the element cerium. Ceric ammonium nitrate, also known as CAN, is a very explosive and flammable chemical; therefore, he is giving you clues as to the components of his bomb that he stated was a dud. Go back and review his statement "cops can shoot back," the word can is practically unreadable. When he whined his bomb was a dud and that the rain swamped him out, he’s telling that the moisture made the CAN unstable and caused chemical decomposition. On top of all this, the acronym CID is for the United States Army’s Criminal Investigation Department and since 1971 is now known as the Criminal Investigation Command. The next word he misspells is “that,” which has an r in front of it for "rhat." The only other letter that would make sense is a w for the word "what." He also misspells the word territory as terito~y with a strangely shaped r in the suffix, and the r in the following word for "more" is also mumbled with a jagged line. These three clues tell me that the letter r is somehow related to the letter w, so R=W or vice versa. Next note the two Os in the words doo; we’ll see this in the decoding. The word “is” is misspelled backwards as "si," so it appears he’s telling you something should be read backwards. OK, now let’s take a good look at the 13 letters and symbols that's supposed to reveal his name.

ZodiacName

The crosshair symbol ⊕ is excluded right now because this symbol personifies him as the Zodiac Killer and translates into the letter I, for me myself and I; his ego is shining bright. So without the crosshair symbol, there are 3-⊗ symbols and one-ω symbol (fortuitously I used the small Greek omega letter of O because it looked like a an elongated stem for omega), and 8-capital letters, so the key numbers for this decoding is 3, 4, and 8 along the alphabet, just as I had done in the Shugborough Decoding. We’ll be going along the alphabet backwards or forwards 3, 4, or 8 letters. For example, from A forwards 3 without including the A in the count is A–BCD and D is the letter and so on. For the letter Z, you start the count forwards at A. The following symbols equal these letters ⊗=Z and ω=OO. Strangely enough the weird upside-down T with curved tails on each side that looked like the omega symbol to me is really an O or double Os. He gives you this clue: if you start with the K for K ⊗ M ⊗ ω and go along the alphabet, it’s KL(which is ⊗)MN(⊗)O(ω), but as we will find out ⊗=Z, so the omega is actually an O or two Os. To demonstrate his next layer of necessary interpretations, I will to translate "My name is–" 13 letter-symbol line into David S. Wicks RIP as an example and then show you the minor complications that he embedded into the decoding. However, I actually did use an L for the crosshair ⊕ symbol as 3 back for the decoding and gave two alternatives as possible initial.

The letters NAM at the end translates into RIP for "Rest In Peace," but if you read the letters backwards, they are PIR for the U.S. Army’s Parachute Infantry Regiment, actually known as PIR. Therefore, it appears that he did serve in Vietnam. As you will see, the first name of David seems solid enough at this point, but then you get to questioning if the letter after the name David is an initial, and if it is an initial, we learned earlier from the misspelled words exercise that S=C=K, so which one is his initial S, C, or perhaps K? Then we get into the first letter of his surname. I used W for Wicks, but the viable 6-letters for this translation are RVW backwards and CDH forwards. Therefore, with this decoding it could also be Ricks, Vicks, Dicks and Hicks. Then we get to the second letter that's most likely has to be a vowel but the choices of vowels are EIU (from IEJPQU), which could change his surname to Rucks, Wecks, Wucks, Decks, Hecks, Hucks, which are the most likely candidates. Now we come across another snag; what if the ω=OO is only a single O, then David S. Rick could be read by switching the first and last name around as Dick/Rick/Rich, S/C/K as the initial and then Davids, for Richard S/C/K Davids or Vick Davids, or other less common surnames such as Dirg or Rehg could fit without the S at the end while just using all possible letters of the decoding. And to cover all the bases, what if the letters NAM are read backwards to add a MAN at the end of the surname for David S/C/K Wickman, Rickman, Dickman, or Hickman. And what if the S is not an initial but spells out David Swick RIP. The Zodiac knew this would cause confusion. However, I don’t think he counted on someone knowing that RIP backwards means PIR. In any event, this would require a government search on the U. S. Vietnam Database to find the variations of the name and match it with time served in the service as well as leave times that jive with the killings and attacks. For some odd reason, only those killed or injured are on the Vietnam Internet databases that I could find. The playing field has leveled a bit to find the Zodiac Killer to see if he is dead or still alive.

Now let’s see if we can find more about the Zodiac Killer. In August of 1969, he sent the following cryptogram that was reportedly deciphered the next day by Donald and Bettye Harden, schoolteachers from Salinas, California. However, there are 18 letters at the end of the missive that have never been deciphered.

I LIKE KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE IT IS
SO MUCH FUN IT IS MORE FUN THAN
KILLING WILD GAME IN THE FORREST
BECAUSE MAN IS THE MOST
DANGEROUE ANAMAL OF ALL TO KILL
SOMETHING GIVES ME THE MOST
THRILLING EXPERENCE IT IS EVEN
BETTER THAN GETTING YOUR ROCKS
OFF WITH A GIRL THE BEST PART OF IT
IS THAE WHEN I DIE I WILL BE REBORN
IN PARADICE AND THEI HAVE KILLED
WILL BECOME MY SLAVES I WILL NOT
GIVE YOU MY NAME BECAUSE YOU WILL
TRY TO SLOI DOWN OR ATOP MY
COLLECTIOG OF SLAVES FOR MY
AFTERLIFE EBEORIETEMETHHPITI

In this case, the letters backwards and forwards are 4 and 5, so there’s less variability in the translation of AGATNNAPAIZODCLEPD or more easily read AG ATN NAPA I ZODC LEPD or in full length Attorney General (of California) Attention NAPA I Zodiac LEPD.

Zodiac54

The LEPD could just mean Law Enforcement Police Department, meaning he is or was a cop of some sort. But this could also translate into Lake Elsinore Police Department (LEPD). He could have been an official at the LEPD, clerk, or janitor for all I know or even a contract vendor that just delivered products or services to the LEPD. I found many nuances in his above message. Lake Elsinore abuts the Cleveland National Forest of 460,000 acres of chaparral and river/stream systems, so his comment of FORREST or FOR-REST could mean many unknown peoples' bodies found their demise in the Cleveland National Forest or other national forests. The word DANGEROUSE is spelled with an E at the end, and if we add the missing S, he could mean the word ROUSE as to awaken or sexually arouse, since he actually talks about sexually getting his rocks off right after that. The word ANAMAL could be pointing out the name Ana that means favor or grace and mal for the word bad, so he’s saying something like–bad favor or grace. The word THAE is scrambled or an anagram for the word HATE. The word PARADICE spelled with a C instead of an S could mean to take the plural word DICE and make it singular into the word DIE, and then you have PARA-DIE, which would mean something like to Die Side-By-Side.

Between October of 1986 to September of 1991, Lake Elsinore had a streak of serial killing of 17 women (considered prostitutes) that had been stabbed or strangled and left in very indiscreet areas for the bodies to be found. These particular killing are speculated to be connected to the Zodiac Killer. Is this a mere coincidence?

A small computer program would easily spit out all possible initials, surnames and recheck my first name translation of David for a more comprehensive list of viable names. If the Zodiac Killer actually served in the PIR in Vietnam and from the number count of 5 and 4 in the above decoding, I would start with the 504th PIR, perhaps the 508th PIR, and the other 500-numbered PIRs of the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army, known as AA or All-American, and then work to the 101st Airborne Division PIRs, known as the Screaming Eagles. And with his possible connection to Lake Elsinore, the Army in Vietnam, and the variations of his name that I presented, perhaps the cold trail to find the Zodiac Killer is finally heating up…

I have a few more comments/observations. The above 1969 cipher was sent in a suite of three to various newspapers: one had four stamps, and the other two had three and two stamps, which has been considered a clue. Could it be that he was pointing out the key of 4 and 5 along the alphabet of 4 with 3 plus 2 equaling 5? And also the 1970 cipher of his letter-symbol name using the 3, 4 and 8 numbers. Could it mean the numbers 3, 4, and 4 multiplied by 2 equaling 8? For both of the above decodings, he starts out with viable patterns for numbers and directions along the alphabet and then gets somewhat erratic when it comes to pertinent information but appears to stay with the numbering system. However, when you come across a letter or letters with opposing directions, then he changes his M.O. for number sequences and direction patterns. I call this a "Trip," meaning change.
